Three Dolla Bill 50k - Jan 21, 2007

Three Dolla Bill
Time: 4:33:30

I'm glad I did this, and surprisingly not as sore as I thought I might be. Low-key race, 5X10k along the Calgary river path system.
Splits:
10k - 0:57
20k - 1:49
30k - 2:37
40k - 3:36
50k - 4:33

Weather started at around -11C; wore capilene long sleeve with Tshirt overtop and spring weight tights, ball cap and gardening gloves, and was fine. First loop with Amy and co; felt slow but apparently ended up being close to target 55 min. Second loop perhaps a little fast in retrospect; slowed down more than I'd wanted in third loop. Fourth and fifth loops took my handheld with raspberry Hammer gel - not diluted enough and starting to freeze, which made for a nice slush but wanted to be careful about pacing the sips and taking in too much gel. Not too lonely as many runner out even during the lunch hours. Thinking 4:30 would be reasonable, constantly adjusting 4:45? Would I be happy with 4:45? Around Bridgeland had to talk out loud to myself re: motivation. Occasional glimpses of Ryne as he was doing alternate directions. Some troubles at 38-47k but not too bad. Downhills under Center Street bridge was starting to hurt the quads. Ran last 3k with Lisa. Grab a cup of chili and off to work at Running Room. Took awhile for me to warm up. Quads tender and blistering under ball of feet plus blister on 2nd toe. (New shoes would help! Using same pair as last May). All in all was glad to meet new people and was a nice training run for Frozen Ass in a couple weeks...

There is so much to say that I haven't any idea where to start. Marin County Bikes? Farmer's Market? Orange trees, flowers and birds? UC Davis? Jim and Nicole? Crepes? San Fran and Denver airports? School of Rock? Wallace and Grommit?
